Our Story

For over 70 years, the turkey industry in BC has worked together to provide consumers with high quality products.

The industry is comprised of a robust network of farmers, processors, service providers and suppliers. These people and companies work together to ensure a sustainable and high-quality supply of turkey products for the domestic and export markets.

1951

The BC Turkey Association is formed. The Association serves primarily as a social venue for turkey farmers in BC.

1966

The BC Turkey Marketing Board is formed by the Government of BC through an Order in Council to improve the marketing of turkey products and provide much-needed stability to the sector. 95% of BC turkey farmers support the creation of the Board.

1973

The Federal-Provincial Agreement is signed. This allows BC to join Turkey Farmers of Canada (1974) and the national supply management system.

1995

The BCTA purchases an office in Surrey to serve as the Marketing Board and Turkey Association head office and a gathering space for turkey farmers.

2004

BC adopts the national On-Farm Food Safety Program as a mandatory requirement for all registered farmers.

2005

BCTMB has its first government-appointed Chair. BC Poultry Association begins development a Poultry Biosecurity Plan.

2013

BC adopts the national Flock Care Program as a mandatory requirement for all registered farmers.
